The best parts of Piedmont (Piemonte) Italy!
Piedmont is a large regione (a ‘regione’ is similar to an English county or a US state). It literally means At the Foot of the Mountains. Piemonte is the Italian spelling, piedmont is used by the English speaking world.
The outstanding areas are the Langhe, Monferrato, Roero and the Lakes (Maggiore and Orta), as well as the skiing towns. Other parts are less popular with foreign buyers.
- The Monferrato - A beautiful part of Piemonte. Its closer proximity to Asti, Milan and Turin can make it more expensive – though this is not always the case. The area is very accessible as there are motorways surrounding it. There are still plenty of good properties to be found here and I can highly reccommend it - I've lived in it for 9 years!
- The Langhe - The area is beautiful, the people are hospitable and friendly, eating out is cheap, wine is the highest quality, and houses are still at very good prices. It's easy to reach having three major airports close by. It's very calm and not overrun with tourism. Germans and Swiss have been seeing its value for years. There are some parts of the Langhe to avoid if you want easy access. Read more about the Langhe..
- The Lakes - This area is also a beautiful area. Prices are higher than other parts of Piedmont but usually is a good investment.
